Candle Care and Safety
Enjoy Your Candle Mindfully
A little care goes a long way. Proper candle care helps your candle burn more evenly, extend its life, and create a beautiful fragrance experience.
Please read the safety guidelines below before lighting your candle and follow the specific instructions provided with your product.
BEFORE EACH BURN
Trim the Wick
Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch.
A properly trimmed wick helps create a cleaner, more controlled flame and can help prevent excessive soot, smoke, and uneven burning.
Remove any loose wick trimmings before lighting.
Keep the Wax Surface Clear
Before each burn, make sure the wax surface is free from wick trimmings, matches, debris, or other materials.
YOUR FIRST BURN MATTERS
For the first burn, allow the candle to remain lit long enough for the melted wax to reach close to the edges of the container.
This helps establish an even melt pool and can help prevent tunneling during future burns.
Avoid burning the candle for excessively long periods.
SAFE BURNING PRACTICES
Always follow these important safety guidelines:
-
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
-
Keep candles away from children and pets.
-
Keep candles away from curtains, paper, bedding, furniture, and other flammable materials.
-
Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant, level surface.
-
Keep the candle away from drafts, fans, air vents, and high-traffic areas.
-
Do not move a candle while the wax is hot or liquid.
-
Never use water to extinguish a candle.
-
Keep the candle within sight whenever it is burning.
-
Do not burn a candle near another candle or heat source.
-
Never place objects, matches, or wick trimmings into the melted wax.
BURN TIME
For safety, we recommend limiting each burn to approximately 2–4 hours at a time, depending on the candle size and product instructions.
Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.
Never burn a candle all the way down to the bottom of its container. Discontinue use when approximately 1/2 inch of wax remains or when the manufacturer's product-specific instructions indicate that it is time to stop.
EXTINGUISHING YOUR CANDLE
When you're finished enjoying your candle, extinguish the flame carefully.
A candle snuffer can be used to extinguish the flame while helping reduce smoke.
Do not use water to put out a candle. Water can cause hot wax to splatter and may damage the container.
Allow the candle and melted wax to cool completely before handling or moving it.
CANDLE CONTAINER SAFETY
Candle containers can become hot during use.
Never touch or move a container while the candle is burning or while the wax is still hot.
Place candles only on surfaces that can safely withstand heat.
Do not use a candle container if it becomes cracked, chipped, damaged, or otherwise unsafe.
PREVENTING TUNNELING
Tunneling occurs when a candle burns down the center while leaving a significant amount of wax around the sides.
To help prevent tunneling:
-
Trim the wick before each burn.
-
During the first burn, allow the melt pool to develop toward the edges of the container.
-
Avoid repeatedly burning the candle for very short periods.
-
Do not burn the candle for longer than the recommended maximum burn time.
WHAT ABOUT SOOT OR A LARGE FLAME?
A small amount of soot may occasionally occur, particularly if a wick becomes too long or the candle is exposed to a draft.
If the flame becomes unusually large, flickers excessively, or produces significant smoke:
-
Extinguish the candle.
-
Allow it to cool completely.
-
Trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch.
-
Relight only when the candle is positioned safely.
If the candle continues to burn unusually after proper wick trimming, discontinue use.
FRAGRANCE & PERSONAL SENSITIVITY
Our candles and fragrance products are designed to provide an enjoyable sensory experience.
Fragrance sensitivity varies from person to person. If you experience discomfort, irritation, headache, breathing difficulty, or another unwanted reaction, discontinue use and move to an area with fresh air.
If symptoms are severe or persistent, seek appropriate medical attention.
KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN & PETS
Candles contain an open flame and hot wax and should always be kept out of reach of children and pets.
Never allow children to light or handle a burning candle without appropriate adult supervision.
STORAGE
When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture, and temperature extremes.
Keep the candle covered when possible to help protect the wax and fragrance from dust and debris.
GIFTING & SHIPPING
If you are giving a candle as a gift, make sure the recipient receives the product safety information and understands proper candle use.
Always inspect a candle after delivery. If the container is cracked, broken, or otherwise damaged, do not burn the candle. Contact us for assistance.
IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER
A burning candle should never be left unattended.
Keep the flame away from anything that can catch fire, and keep candles away from children and pets.
Use candles responsibly and always follow the safety instructions provided with the individual product.
